Launceston is an exciting place for doctors to live! And Northern Suburbs Medical Service (NSMS) situated in the northern suburbs at Mowbray Heights on the top of the hill, next to the Mowbray Race Course, just around the corner from the excellent Mowbray Golf Club, and family home to cricketing-great Ricky Ponting, is a great place for doctors to work.

Our practice is also next to Launceston Grammar Senior School, the University of Tasmania Newnham Campus, and Launceston is also home to the northern Utas Clinical School which will undergo a major multi-million dollar upgrade in 2010.

Being able to provide doctors who work with us security of employment and satisfactory income commensurate with their qualifications and experience is, of course, very important for those doctors and their families. It is also very important for patients of the practice that we do so, as it helps ensure that the practice can attract and keep good quality doctors working in the northern suburbs of Launceston, providing essential medical services in the community close to where people live and work.

So we believe that GPs should be suitably rewarded by their patients for the work they perform and we have an appropriate fee structure in place that reflects the value of the services provided.

We have a strong patient load, and you will see patients with a wide range of conditions that will challenge your professional skills to produce quality clinical outcomes.

We place great importance on the doctors working with each other, and with nurses and support staff, as a cohesive functional team. NSMS is a happy place to work - a good sense of humour is a worthy asset.

We recognise that quality in consulting is, amongst other things, directly related to time with the patient. Doctors are not pressed to see patients quickly - patients paying private fees demand and should get time with their doctor to make certain all their concerns are properly addressed. Naturally, we are an AGPAL fully accredited practice.

Good buildings and equipment are essential to quality medical practice. We have made a substantial investment in improving our infrastructure over the past four years. After an investment of around $400,000, our Mowbray Heights surgery now has;

• Five consulting rooms which all have excellent natural and artificial lighting;
• An enlarged surgical/emergency treatment room, together with a separate nurses treatment room;
• An enlarged waiting room and an enlarged staff room;
• Air conditioning throughout all areas of the practice;
• Modern, redecorated reception, waiting room and consulting rooms - looks great on the outside, too; and
• Bright exterior lighting at night.

We also have the latest in wide area computer network (WAN) incorporating fast, efficient, 'thin-client' technology.
